You haven’t heard from us in a while, we know. And we’re sorry. A funny thing happened, we got swamped. You know those inspirational quotes saying that persistence and quality work pays off? Apparently, it’s not all make-believe.

We’ve landed several new clients and have several more in the works. We keep getting asked who our ideal client/size/industry is and we think we’ve finally figured it out. It’s an organization that cares about culture and thinks that having people believe in what they do will make them successful. We will share more on that in the new future.

In the meantime, we wanted to give you some insight into what takes up so much of our time. Every new client engagement starts with an intense discovery process we call, the Culture and HR Capabilities Assessment. It’s a comprehensive view of everything that touches the employee–understanding the total employee experience.

We don’t do survey’s—at least not to get a view of the culture of the company. Instead, we sit down and talk to the employees (a lot of them…for many hours). A typical engagement starts with us talking to over 50 employees, with hours and hours of dialog. We think this is the only way to get a clear view of the shared beliefs and behaviors of the employees. We then look under the hood at the more traditional HR items that touch employees, such as systems, policies, compensation plans, and benefit programs.

This process is excruciatingly time intensive and hard to do, but it’s our differentiator. We are good at it. We have unique skills that combine the ability to have authentic conversations with a vast range of employee demographics along with professional inquiry training. For the most part, we have sat in our client’s seats and can empathize with their plight.

So, yes, we spend a lot of time talking to employees, clients and potential clients. In all those conversations we focus on how important it is to communicate and develop relationships. But then the cobbler’s children have no shoes…and we don’t do a great job of communicating with our friends of theTifosi. Sigh.

Going into the second half of the year that will change. A few weeks ago, Chad presented at one of the premier HR/Culture thought leader conferences, Leap HR. Well, not to brag, but he was the Chair of the event and the MC for the conference. This event had HR/Culture leaders from the hospitality industry in attendance. We love these types of events because they are an excellent opportunity to share our ideas and learn from other innovative organizations.

In the meantime, we will leave you with this idea. We recently met Lynne in one of our discovery sessions. She’s now the Training Director at a technology company, and she loves her job. She was hired through a temp agency and had no skills related to the industry at the time. She just needed a job as she has two daughters and cleaning houses wasn’t getting it done any longer. When we asked her how she went from an entry-level temp worker to building and leading the training function in a short period of time, her answer was simple. “One person saw something that I didn’t even know I had in me…and they took a chance.”

You effectively have four (4) months left in 2018. What can you do to affect someone you work with positively? Do you see something in someone that they don’t see themselves? Can you give them a chance?
